Words of Wisdom

I missed last week’s Words of Wisdom (shame on me, but I needed a couple of days to do nothing). But that means I will have two amazing bookish quotes (or quotes from books) for you this week. Hooray!

“Until I feared I would lose it, I never loved to read. One does not love breathing,” Scout Finch from Harper Lee’s To Kill a Mockingbird

I love this quote and poster and I’m pretty sure that I need a copy matted & framed for my office. To Kill a Mockingbird is one of my favorite books of all time (my copy of it has nearly deteriorated). It was one of the first books I completely fell in love with, is one of the reasons why I wanted to teach, and has shaped me as a person more than I can explain.

“I spent my life folded between the pages of books…”- from Unravel Me by Tahereh Mafi

During my first Words of Wisdom post, Marianne from Boricuan Bookworms mentioned this quote. I have to admit that I haven’t read Unravel Me yet, but I after reading Shatter Me, I can see how Juliette would feel this way.

I have also felt like this at many points in my life (although for different reasons– obviously) but it’s something that I think many bookworms can relate to for one reason or another.

What bookish words of wisdom do you have for me this week?

Isn’t it gorgeous??? I was wowed when I saw it.
I think that Tahereh Mafi hand-writes quotes on some hard covers. Or maybe a fan did that, but I’m pretty sure that’s not on each hardcover copy (although it would be amazing).

The Harper Lee quote is one of my favorites as well! I’m rather partial to the following two quotes:
“As far as I can tell, reading will never go out of style, and neither will good old-fashioned storytelling.” – LeVar Burton
“We need to make books cool again. If you go home with somebody, and they don’t have books, don’t fuck them.” – John Waters

Hahahah I love them Kelly, especially the last one. It’s hilarious and so true. Nothing is a turn off more than “I don’t read.”
And I might be able to find a really cool grapic for the Levar Burton quote, or make one at work 🙂
