What I’m Reading…
Something Strange and Deadly by Susan Dennard. It was such a fun and exciting book that I read it in a couple of days and was really absorbed in the story. It was an interesting and exciting premise with a compelling setting and memorable characters. Unfortunately, my library doesn’t have either of the sequels and I don’t know if I can get them via inter-library loan, so I might have to splurge a little next payday.
A Darker Shade of Magic by V.E. Schwab. I love the world (or worlds) that V.E. Schwab has created in this book. It’s dark and mysterious, scary and intriguing. I like the characters a lot (even the bad guys— I love me some bad guys!) and am about 3/4 of the way through this one so far. It’s taking me a while to read, not because I don’t like it (I love it), but I only have bits of time here and there to read it.
What I’m Reading Next:
What I’m Writing…
I’m currently revising Chapter 3 of The Girl in the Glass Coffin. As I’ve said before, I’m focusing on voice and POV in this revision and I think I hit the mark in the first two chapters that I’ve revised.
I’m also taking a Deep POV class this month with Rhonda Helms (check her out here), which has also been super helpful when I’m working on TGGC. This concept is fairly new to me (even though I’ve seen quite a few articles about it in the blogosphere lately) but it’s interesting and I’m learning a lot by reading her lessons and exercises of the others in the group.
However, I’m really scared to share my work with the group. I’ve been doing all of the exercises so far and just can’t bring myself to submit them. I need to get over that if I ever want to be a published author, but everyone is much more experienced than I am. Blah!
TGGC is coming along though. Slowly but surely!
