Camp NaNoWriMo- Day 5

Hello everyone! It’s day 5 of Camp NaNoWriMo. Yesterday was independence Day in the states and today is my town’s celebration.

I hope that you’re all having a wonderful day, whether or not you’ve decided to take the day off from writing. Me, I am going to use as much of today as I can to get stuff done! I haven’t written anything yet today (I know, shame on me) but I am proud to say that I am already a quarter of my way to my initial goal of 10k words for the month.

Yes I know, 10k doesn’t seem like a lot, but in previous Camp NaNoWriMos I’ve set my goals too high and didn’t meet them. Back in March I wrote a blog post about Setting Managable Writing Goals. This is still important for me to remember, as when I set my goals too high (especially during Summer months when I am beyond busy) I don’t do well at all.

So this week I’ve been pretty darn productive. I’ve read, revised, and edited Chapter 5 of TGGC before sending it off to my lovely critique partners. Today I plan on getting a start on Chapter 6 and by the end of tomorrow I’m hoping to have it at least half way done.

I think 10K is an excellent target. Much better, as you say, to aim for something achievable than set yourself up for failure. I just finished JuNoWriMo and set myself the target of 30K rather than the recommended 50K because I knew there was no way I could get that high. Now I’ still aiming for an average of 1K a day… 0 words today so far though!

If you’re already 2.5K towards your monthly goal, sounds like you can take the day off and enjoy the celebrations 🙂

Thanks. I figured if I hit the 10k target with plenty of time to spare that I would add another 5 to 10k words to my goal. An average of 1k a day is a great goal. I might try that myself once Camp NaNo is over (or once I hit the 10k). My overall goal is to have my novel polished by November, so that would definitely help me get there. Thanks so much for the idea.

Good luck hitting your goals 🙂

I’m not doing Camp NaNo this year- maybe next year! I’ll be lucky if I have anything ready to do in November. Good luck and I hope you are able to keep the pace! I know how difficult this challenge is and participating regularly is a win in my book! 🙂
