Top 10 Books of 2016

Top 10 Books of 2016In 2016, I set out with a goal of reading 100 books. Ten of those books would be re-reads for me, another 12 to be contemporary, and 5 to be non-fiction. My Top 10 bOOKS OF 2016 ARE A NICE MIX OF ALL OF THOSE GOALS.

Not long into the year, I knew that reading 2 books a week would be difficult, if not impossible and the goal of 100 books was cut in half.  That was a much more manageable goal. I reached and surpassed 50 books easily.

I read a total of 73 books in 2016!

  • 12 of them were contemporary novels (goal achieved!)
  • 8 of them were re-reads (goal not quite achieved, but close!)
  •  2 were non-fiction (wah wahhhh– fail)

But so many of them were incredible. Here are my top 10 books of 2016 (in no particular order)!

10. Dumplin’ by Julie Murphy

Top 10 Books of 2016This book gave me so many feels and Willowdean was just the heroine I needed to kick off the new year with. I laughed out loud, I ugly-cried. Dumplin’ was just plain fantastic!

9. The Raven King by Maggie Steifvater

Top 10 Books of 2016 The amazing conclusion to The Raven Cycle had me in tears more than once. I loved seeing the how this story ended for these beloved characters and can’t wait to see what Steifvaters Ronan trilogy has in store for us! (Love him!)

8. A Gathering of Shadows by V.E. Schwab

Top 10 Books of 2016The sequel to A Darker Shade of Magic was a worthy and amazing continuation of a story that sparked my imagination. I can’t wait until A Conjuring of Light is released!

7.  The Hired Girl by Laura Amy Schlitz

Top 10 Books of 2016Recommended to me by a trusted bookseller, The Hired Girl was a book that was out of my comfort zone of fantasy, sci-fi, and paranormal.  However, I was amazed at how realistic and loveable each of the characters in this book was and was so glad that I picked it up. Thanks Banna for the recommendation <3.

6. This Savage Song by Victoria Schwab

Top 10 Books of 2016A book that blurs the lines between what it means to be human and what it means to be a monster, This Savage Song had me hooked on page 1.

5 & 4. An Ember in the Ashes and A Torch Against the Night by Sabaa Tahir

Top Ten Books of 2016I loved the characters in these books (*ahem, especially Helene) and was equal parts fascinated and terrified by the world the characters lived in.

3. A Court of Mist and Fury by Sarah J. Maas

Top 10 Books of 2016So. Much. Happened. in this book! I grew to love characters I already knew and met some other fascinating ones. And where the book left off. Oh my goodness.

2 & 1. Six of Crows and Crooked Kingdom by Leigh Bardugo

I think I talked about these two books the most on my bookstagram page during 2016. I read *(and re-read)* SoC and dove right into Crooked Kingdom. I love how diverse and exciting this duology is. Each of the characters, while not the greatest of people, find their way into your heart and you grow to love and care for them.
