Monday Motivation: Plans for Amanda’s Nose in a Book

Monday Motivation: Blog Post Banner

It’s time for some Monday Motivation!

Monday can be hard, especially when you’ve just come out of a weekend that was much busier than you anticipated (pretty much every weekend when you’re an adult, right?). But it really doesn’t have to be. Not if you’re doing something you love. Making what you’re passionate about a career is something that so many people dream of, myself included. Monday Motivation is one thing that I want to bring to Amanda’s Nose in a Book at least once a month, to give you something that will motivate you to read, write, be creative, and do the things you love!

The past few years I have been trying to decide what to do with my career, with this blog, and just with what I want to do in general.

Amanda’s Nose in a Book has been pretty quiet. But it’s time to change that. I absolutely loved it when I was posting here regularly! It was fun,  I connected with other readers and writers, and met my two critique partners here.

I’ve decided to get “the fear” again (yes that is a friends reference) and use this space to combine my two passions: teaching and writing.

I’m an English teacher (currently a substitute) where I live. While subbing isn’t a bad job at all and I get to do something different every day, it’s not something that I am super passionate about. I love teaching. I love writing. And for a long time I’ve tried to find a way to combine the two.

In the upcoming months, there will be some huge and awesome changes to this site, and I will be starting so many other new endeavors.

What you can expect from Amanda’s Nose in a Book!

So in all honesty, I’ve been trying (and not trying) to get this blog back up and running for a while now. A friend suggested that I try a posting schedule to help me stay focused and organized, so I figured that would be a great way to get me posting and talking to all of you lovelies again! I’ve missed you!

Here’s my weekly schedule!

Monday

Mondays can be rough for people, so I’ve decided that Mondays will be a great day to start off the week with a book review, a book chat, or something fun and bookish. Let’s not hate Mondays together!

Tuesday

This is my day to share Top Ten lists. This might be a Top Ten Tuesday feature. Or it might be a list of my own making. Either way, this is a great day to find fun, new reads for yourself. Continue reading

You Can’t Always Get What You Want

About two years ago, I left my job as a receptionist and social media maven to pursue teaching.

Since I spent years studying education, I thought that it was time to put that to good use.

So I got the fear and put in my two week’s notice.

Since then, I’ve been substitute teaching in two districts around where I live and loving it. I teach nearly every day and had two long-term sub placements.

This summer, there were two job openings. Both in the districts where I work. I thought, score! This could be my chance!

So I worked on polishing up my resume and cover letter. I spent days making sure they were both stellar and even work shopped them with a friend. With my fingers crossed, I applied to both jobs very early in the summer. Continue reading

Top 10 Books of 2016

Top 10 Books of 2016In 2016, I set out with a goal of reading 100 books. Ten of those books would be re-reads for me, another 12 to be contemporary, and 5 to be non-fiction. My Top 10 bOOKS OF 2016 ARE A NICE MIX OF ALL OF THOSE GOALS.

Not long into the year, I knew that reading 2 books a week would be difficult, if not impossible and the goal of 100 books was cut in half.  That was a much more manageable goal. I reached and surpassed 50 books easily.

I read a total of 73 books in 2016!

  • 12 of them were contemporary novels (goal achieved!)
  • 8 of them were re-reads (goal not quite achieved, but close!)
  •  2 were non-fiction (wah wahhhh– fail)

But so many of them were incredible. Here are my top 10 books of 2016 (in no particular order)!

Thank you to all of you who follow my little blog. I love how you all chime in on my discussions about reading and writing. You help to give me a voice in my little corner of the world. Without you, Amanda’s Nose in a Book wouldn’t be here, 2 years after I began!

You’re all awesome and I look forward to all of the awesomeness to come.

Amanda's Nose in a Book is Back!!!

I apologize for not being active this Summer. Things got pretty crazy for a little while there and honestly, I needed a break from blogging for a few weeks. But hopefully I will be back to the normal swing of things pretty soon.

I’ve been working on my novel a lot since I posted last and have been working with my critique partner on ways that I can make my writing stronger. Things are coming along nicely in that area of my life. The last two weeks or so I really struggled with one chapter, but once I finally finished that, I feel so much better about my novel.

So. I will continue to post reviews, features, and such here on my blog, but I also want to talk more about writing. That is something I have been toying around with in my mind this past month. As much as I love reviewing books and participating in memes, I was beginning to feel bored with the posts I was making.

Since my nose is usually in a book, be it one that I am reading, or one that I am writing— Amanda’s Nose in a book is going to expand a little bit in what content I blog about!

Here’s to revamping and revitalizing my blog! Thank you for supporting me.happygoat
