You Can’t Always Get What You Want

About two years ago, I left my job as a receptionist and social media maven to pursue teaching.

Since I spent years studying education, I thought that it was time to put that to good use.

So I got the fear and put in my two week’s notice.

Since then, I’ve been substitute teaching in two districts around where I live and loving it. I teach nearly every day and had two long-term sub placements.

This summer, there were two job openings. Both in the districts where I work. I thought, score! This could be my chance!

So I worked on polishing up my resume and cover letter. I spent days making sure they were both stellar and even work shopped them with a friend. With my fingers crossed, I applied to both jobs very early in the summer. Continue reading

What I'm Reading & Writing Wednesday!!!

The past couple of weeks I really have been slacking on my reading. I finally finished House of Hades by Rick Riordan! Be on the look out for a review of that to be posted within the next few days. When I began reading it, I flew through the first half of the book, but then life got in the way and I had to read a little bit whenever I got a half-hour or so.

I also began reading The Miseducation of Cameron Post by Emily M. Danforth, and while I did enjoy what I read and it was beautifully written, I think it might have to go back into the TBR pile for a little while. I will get to reading it eventually, but I just found that it wasn’t the kind of book I was in the mood for when I began reading it. I have been in the mood for fantastical worlds lately, so I hope that I get my fill of fantasy/sci-fi/dystopian soon so that I can pick up some amazing contemporary YA books.

Last week I picked up another book from the bookstore that has been on my TBR list for a while….

scorpioThe Scorpio Races by Maggie Stiefvater! I have been wanting to read this book for quite some time and I am especially excited to get into it because it was a Printz Honor Book. I love Maggie Stiefvater’s storytelling and writing style, so I can’t wait to begin this book when I get home from work this evening!

I finished one more chapter in my novel last week! I didn’t get as much finished as I would have liked to, but I was talking to my boyfriend about my story the other day (for the first time ever) and I was bouncing some ideas off of him. He got really intrigued by my premise and was helping me close up some of those pesky plot holes. My novel will make much more sense now and I am even more excited to get there. I might have to re-outline and maybe get rid of some of what I have already revised, but it will be so worth it.

What I’m up to…

I live in Oswego, NY which is also known as snow country. We have beautiful springs, summers, and autumns, but our winters last for ages. I feel like we have gotten an entire winter’s worth of crap weather in the past couple of days. Eek!

Happy reading, friends!

What are you reading this week?
