Monday Musings: Camp NaNoWriMo April 2017

Hello friends. I know it’s been a while. I’m pretty crappy at this consistent blogging thing. I want to get better at it though.

April is only a few days away and you know what that means– Camp NaNoWriMo!

Honestly, I am so excited for Camp NaNo this year. Last November was a complete bust and I kind of lost all will to write very early on in the game. But I have a great game plan for this year and I am so ready to go.

My project for Camp NaNoWriMo this April will be… The Girl in the Glass Coffin.

You might be thinking– wait, haven’t you been working on that book for years? Didn’t you finish draft 4 last year?

Yes and yes.

Earlier this year I was trying to plot out some events that will happen in book 2. I tried to start writing and things just weren’t working out for me. The story felt weird and the characters were blah. But I had a revelation. Continue reading

Camp NaNoWriMo Diary- Day 10: Keep Swimming

As of today, April 10, 2016, I am 1/3 of the way to my goal of 15k words for this session of Camp NaNoWriMo.

Earlier this week I thought about giving up and trying it during the summer.

The excuses included but were not limited to:

  • You still haven’t queried the first book in this trilogy, why would you start the second book?
  • You have so many lesson plans to write, so much work to do.
  • Your house is a bloody mess. Don’t write, get cleaning.
  • And the worst– writer’s block.

What I’m Reading…

So, this section is becoming more and more chaotic by the day, but I’m reading quite a bit right now. Some of it is for school (things that my students are or will be reading), and some of it is for my own personal reading. So until the end of the school year, I’m going to break it down and let you know what titles I’m reading in both areas of my life! Continue reading

Camp NaNoWriMo Diary: Day 2- Let’s get it started

Camp NaNoWriMo Diary- Day 2

Confession: I did absolutely no writing yesterday.

scheduleActually I did write. I started my blog back up again. I wrote my lesson plans for next week and an introductory letter for our school’s monthly newsletter. So yes, I did write a lot.

But I didn’t work on my WIP at all.

Actually by the end of the day yesterday I was still wondering what it was that I really wanted to work on for Camp NaNoWriMo. I had three choices. Continue reading

Life Update & Camp NaNoWriMo

Life Update & Camp NaNoWriMo

Oh my poor, neglected blog. It’s been so long since I’ve posted. I’ve written about a dozen posts with every intention of finishing¬† and publishing them, but it just never happened.

But there have been so many good things happening lately.

My Writing Space

My Writing Space

Welcome to my writing space, the place in my home that is on any given day the most or least productive place that I spend my time. One of the most important tips I have for surviving NaNoWriMo is having a comfortable place to write with as few distractions as possible. So let’s take a look at mine!

Author Kami Garcia, has a great weekly blog post where she shows what’s on her desk that week. I would like to make that a once or twice monthly post to show you what I have and use in my writing space to keep me as productive as possible! Continue reading

Halfway Through NaNoWriMo 2015

Yesterday was November 15th! We’re halfway through the month and that also means that NaNoWriMo is half over. Woohoo, I’ve made it this far as have a bunch of people in my region. It makes me so happy to see my fellow writers succeed!

The past couple of weeks have been crazy. I’ve been scrambling to meet my word count every day, subbing almost every day, and last weekend I was crazy and thought I could do a craft show. Needless to say, last week I struggled a bit. But having done this a few times, it’s pretty expected that I will struggle during week 2. Continue reading

What I’m Reading & Writing Wednesday

whatimreadingandwritingwednesday

Hello friends! Welcome to What I’m Reading and Writing Wednesday. It’s been a while. I’m still trying to come up with a blogging and writing schedule that works around substitute teaching. This is a weekly feature (or it’s supposed to be) that is inspired by WWW Wednesday hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words. Another great feature is My Week in Books over at Lipsyy Lost and Found.

Here’s what I’ve been reading…

I just finished…

Girl on a Wire by Gwenda Bond. The biggest thing that I loved about this book was seeing the circus life from the point of view of someone who loves and lives it.

And I also read Everything, Everything by Nicola Yoon. I adored this book. While the story of the boy/girl in a bubble is an old one, Yoon brought a fresh perspective and a unique voice to this story. I loved this book so much that I devoured the whole novel in less than 24 hours!

I’m currently reading…

Carry On by Rainbow RowellI feel like I’ve waited so long to read Carry On and when I saw it at the library last week I had to grab it. If you don’t know already, I’m pretty obsessed with Rainbow Rowell’s books and this book had the potential to be my favorite Rowell book yet!

What I’m reading next…

Landline by Rainbow RowellLandline by Rainbow Rowell. I picked this book up over the summer in a bargain books section (and was so stoked!) and haven’t had the chance to read it yet. I think I will need more Rainbow Rowell after finishing Carry On.¬† (This is not the cover I have, but I love this one!)

What I’m Writing…

TGGC has been slowing down for me a bit as I prepare for NaNoWriMo next month. I need a break from it and to play with new characters and a new world for a while, which I’m pretty excited for. But I would like to finish up chapters 21 and 22 of TGGC before October 31st, so I feel less guilty about doing NaNoWriMo.

I’m writing some posts for the next 10 days of NaNoWriMo prep as well, so stay tuned for those. This blog will be much busier in the coming months.

What are you reading and writing this week?

What I’m Reading and Writing Wednesday

whatimreadingandwritingwednesday

Hello and welcome to What I’m Reading and Writing Wednesday, my spin on WWW Wednesday, hosted by Sam over at Taking on a World of Words and My Week in Books over at Lipsyy Lost and Found. This week I’m posting it a bit later in the day than usual, but that’s because I spent the morning subbing in a middle school.

So let’s chat about what I’m reading this week…

I just finished.

theassassinsbladeThe Assassin’s Blade by Sarah J. Maas. I ended up really enjoying this book, especially the novellas that were a bit longer than the first two. I liked that each story led into the next one. It was awesome to see Sam Cortland (finally) even though I knew what happened to him. Continue reading
